Fees

To get the most from your therapy, we strongly encourage you to maintain consistent attendance to consolidate new learning to create long-lasting change. Depending on your goals, individual and relationship therapy often involves attending at least 6-10 sessions. For severe or chronic mental health challenges, more frequent sessions on a regular schedule are recommended.

Calm State Psychology is a private practice, so whilst we do not bulk bill, our fees are lower than the APS National Schedule of Recommended Fees which is set at $300 for an individual 50-minute session.

Rebates

Medicare Rebates:  To be eligible for a rebate from Medicare, you will need to book an appointment with your doctor or psychiatrist to discuss referral to see a psychologist via a Mental Health Treatment Plan (MHTP).

With a MHTP, you will be eligible to receive a rebate of $141.85 from Medicare for each session for a total of 10 sessions per calendar year (January to December).

To start with, your doctor or psychiatrist will refer you for up to 6 sessions, then if you need more, your psychologist will provide a letter to your doctor to support your request for a further 4 sessions.

Please note:

  • The full fee is taken at the end of each session. Your psychologist will then submit your claim to Medicare on your behalf. Once processed, Medicare will transfer the rebate to your account within 24-48 hrs
  • If booking a double appointment using a Mental Health Care Plan,a rebate can only be applied for one appointment
  • Medicare does not cover late cancellations or non attendance fees.

Private Health Insurance:  You may be eligible for a rebate from your private health insurer. Please check your personal cover with your provider first if you intend to make a claim.

Employee Assistance Programmes (EAP):  We provide psychology sessions for clients to access through their workplace under Employee Assistance Programmes (EAP). EAP is designed to provide access to psychological care for employees (and sometimes their families) for issues such as work-related stress, as well as non-work related issues and common mental health disorders such as depression, anxiety disorders, etc which may be affecting their work life.

If you are an employer looking to provide quality EAP solutions for your employees, please contact us directly via our details under Contact Us.

Other Rebates:  We also offer rebates under the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) with self-managed plans, Return to Work SA, and through Third Parties by arrangement. Please contact us to discuss.

Cancellation Policy

We believe that your time, like ours, is valuable. The scheduled appointment time is held for you, and as we are heavily booked, late cancellations or no shows (missed appointments) make it difficult for us to fill appointments at the last minute and prevents other clients from accessing mental health support.

As such, we need to charge a cancellation fee. Of course, we understand that sometimes there is a genuine emergency and are willing to take that into account if you communicate with us promptly.

Please provide us with at least 2 business days notice (Monday to Friday). For example, to cancel an appointment on:

  • Friday at 9am, please notify us before 9am on Wednesday prior
  • Monday at 9am, please notify us before 9am on Thursday prior.

Fee charged:

Late Cancellations or No Shows =  100% of the scheduled fee.

Helpful Reminders:

To help you avoid cancellation fees:

  • we will send you an email to confirm your appointment,
  • followed by a courtesy SMS reminder about your appointment 2 days prior to your appointment.

Please note:

Medicare and Private Health Funds do not cover fees for Late Cancellations or No Shows. You will be responsible for full payment of the fee.
